- First Girlguiding County to achieve a Guinness World Record.
On Saturday 14th March the Girlguiding Greater London Kent team, alongside Brownies and Guides who took part, unveiled their world record certificate, which marks their achievement for breaking the Guinness World Record of the most people at a pyjama party / sleepover under one roof.
Girlguiding Greater London Kent, which covers the London boroughs of Bexley and Bromley held a sleepover/pyjama party in The Glades Shopping Centre, Bromley in March 2008. 1,626 members, including Brownies, Guides, Senior Section and their leaders piled into The Glades with their pillows and bed rolls ready for another Guiding adventure. Many of the girls had been away with their units before on camp and pack holidays, but none had slept in a shopping centre before. Lucy Marchant a Brownie with the 13th Bromley Brownies said: “It was so weird being in the Glades when all the shops were shut, we didn’t get to sleep till really late, but I’d do it again”.
As Girlguiding UK moves into its Centenary year, we’re once again proving that we’re relevant to today’s girl, providing opportunities for girls and young women of all ages and backgrounds.Gill Dawson, Girlguiding Bromley North Camp Advisor and co-organiser of the sleepover said “This was a remarkable achievement for the whole County and something for all who took part in to be proud of”.
