Growing Guiding GLK Update
The Growing Guiding Team have been busy promoting Guiding for GLK throughout September and October.
With the help of the National Citizens Service, we ran two Coffee Mornings in Orpington and Sidcup and invited all the parents in Join Us to come along with their 4-8 year olds and see what Guiding has to offer.
The NCS Volunteers ran crafts, made teas and leaflet dropped in the local areas while lots of Leaders came along and chatted to parents about ways in which they could help. Our volunteers had fundraised for us with the money going towards some GLK promotional notebooks as well as thousands of personalised GLK postcards.
Two weeks later we were in Bromley Market Square with the Region Trailer on a busy Saturday morning where GLK had a very visible Growing Guiding presence. Thank you to everybody who came along to man the stall and promote the positive benefits of Volunteering with Girlguiding.
For many it was a full Guiding day, as straight from Bromley it was off to The Big Gig. Special mention must go to Ann Woollins and her Rainbow Unit, who engaged the passing shoppers with a survey, and open air ‘cat and mouse’ game.
Finally we were invited to run a stall at the National Citizens Service Graduation Day at the Marriott Hotel in Bexleyheath which members of our Senior Section took on to great success.
It was a pleasure to talk to all of the young people who were graduating from the NCS scheme throughout the day and hear about their experiences of volunteering. Of course, we were there with an important message to share with the young people about Girlguiding! All of the NCS graduates have had a taste of volunteering during their ‘NCS: The Challenge’ campaigns and we had the chance to talk to them about opportunities to continue volunteering within Girlguiding.
We had a great day promoting volunteering opportunities, celebrating the achievements of the young people from all over Bromley and Bexley who were graduating from NCS, and having fun with the photo booth props – especially the giant alphabet!
Many thanks to everyone who helped at these events and keep us updated on your Growing Guiding activities by using the hashtag #GrowingGuidingGLK.
