GLK at the NCS Volunteer Graduation Event
On Sunday 11th October 2015, Girlguiding GLK were invited to The Marriott in Bexleyheath to attend an event hosted by National Citizens Service, celebrating the contributions of over 600 NCS volunteers who took part in campaigns this summer.
It was a pleasure to talk to all of the young people who were graduating from the NCS scheme throughout the day and hear about their experiences of volunteering.
Of course, we were there with an important message to share with the young people about Girlguiding! All of the NCS graduates have had a taste of volunteering during their ‘NCS: The Challenge’ campaigns and we had the chance to talk to them about opportunities to continue volunteering within Girlguiding.
We had a great day promoting volunteering opportunities, celebrating the achievements of the young people from all over Bromley and Bexley who were graduating from NCS, and having fun with the photo booth props – especially the giant alphabet!
Many thanks to the leaders who helped on the day. #GrowingGuidingGLK
Girlguiding GLK was delighted to have the opportunity to partner with the NCS The Challenge as part of their community service programme. In August, we delivered presentations to three groups of young people age 16-17 explaining Girlguiding and specifically our need for more volunteers so that we can provide more opportunities for more girls.
In late September, teams of NCS volunteers worked with local Girlguiding volunteers to run two coffee mornings in Orpington and Sidcup, to which all those ‘waiting-to-join’ units within the County were invited.
The two coffee mornings included crafts, games, tables of resources and the opportunity for parents to find out more about volunteering with Girlguiding.
The NCS students fundraised as part of theit project, funding the venues, equipment, refreshments as well as 1,000 promotional Girlguiding GLK notebooks.
We were able to have a presence at the subsequent NCS Graduation Event were several hundred students celebrated their time on the programme, with many expressing interest in volunteering with Girlguiding.
