2nd Bexley Brownies support Demelza House

2nd Bexley Brownies have chosen ‘Demelza’ as their adopted charity. We are all as a group, enjoying many fundraising events to raise funds. We have a quiz nights, which was supported by most of our Mums and Dads and really enjoyable. A Pampering night which was mainly for our Mums and have a ‘family’ event planned for every month this year. As a Guide Leader I have personally noticed the strength the fundraising has put into our pack and the support from the parents has been at times ‘tear-jerking’. Demelza House
Demelza House is an 8-bedded hospice in Sittingbourne Kent, providing respite, symptom control, end-of-life care and bereavement support. Over 300 life-limited children and their families benefit from a wide range of facilities that include a multi-sensory room, Soft Play, Jacuzzi, and The Inclusion Zone for young adults.

The Care Team, led by children’s specialist palliative care nurses, make the most of every moment that the child spends at Demelza House. Parents have described having the opportunity of an undisturbed night’s sleep as pure luxury.
At the end of the child’s illness, we offer a comprehensive service of support using a bereavement suite – known as the Hop Garden – which enables a family to let go and say goodbye at their own pace.
Demelza-James provides a hospice at home service for over 150 children in East Sussex, South West Kent and South London with life-threatening and life-limiting illness and their families. The service complements the care offered at Demelza House with the Demelza-James specialist paediatric nurses going directly into the family home to provide care, crisis intervention, an on-call service and respite.

The ‘new’ Eltham project
The new hospice will offer the following principal services:
• Residential short breaks for children in a four bedded unit, together with accommodation available for families wishing to stay with their child.
• End of life care.
• Hospice-at-Home services offering trained nurses and carers to help with children at home.
• Day Care to enable families to leave their child with professional carers during the day.
• Bereavement Services and practical advice to the immediate and wider family.
